Yet to do: quilt back, sandwich the quilt (top, batting, back), quilting, binding.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35531807.post-86025563357375803182012-11-04T15:48:00.002-07:002012-12-11T16:02:16.140-07:00October Progress

So I know it's odd to start my progress report of last month's crafty endeavours with a picture of me in an airplane (flying) but I think it's appropriate. September was my month to learn to fly - as in ground school at our local aviation academy. 3 weeks of extensive information ... I have so much to learn! Anyway, I hope that explains my lack of craftyness ...
My project for the One Little Word course I'm taking at Big Picture Scrapbooking (led by Ali Edwards). "No one can predict to what heights you can soar. Even you will not know until you spread your wings." - unknown

This photo is was taken a few weeks ago - our whole family went climbing and I thought I'd try it too! It was so good because it requires some skill, some strength (I have way more than I used to because of exercising on a regular basis!), resisting FEAR, and having faith - in God, in Matt (that he won't drop me) and in myself that I can do it! I was so pleased with the fact that I made it all the way to the top and that I repelled down too!

This week will be another opportunity to spread my wings ... ground school starts on Tuesday evening - the first step in getting my private pilot's licence.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35531807.post-52304683814099784852012-09-03T19:21:00.002-06:002012-09-03T19:22:34.627-06:00August ProgressWhat a fun month we had, full of many cool adventures.

A little late ... but still good to set some crafty goals for June. Here is May's progress report:

My goals for May:

1. Hope Valley Quilt. Completed the top! Have all the necessary ingredients to finish it including the binding fabric. Had my sewing machine serviced so it's ready to go. This project is going on the back burner for a while because of a commissioned quilt.

I finally finished making my nine patches (36 in all). I had planned to add an extra row to the length but I ran out of fabric squares so I decided to be happy with a square queen sized quilt. I'm really happy with how this quilt is coming together. The last patchwork quilt I made, I sewed the rows together (one patch at a time) - I like the method I'm using this time much better. I have also been sewing the nine patch blocks together in another larger nine patch (which becomes a quarter of the quilt). I think this will be my "MO" for other patchwork quilts is the future. Pictures here show how I planned out the smaller patchwork squares to look "randomly" placed. I used tape markers for to help me remember the order to sew them. I now have half of the quilt all sewn together! Woo hoo!
Sunday I pinked the sides and washed my stack of beautiful Hope Valley fabric (designed by Denyse Shcmidt). And so it begins ...

Not my usual method of operation ... but here it is, the long awaited first day of school scrapbook page for Joel. He requested it months ago and now I have delivered. I also delivered a terrible burnt late supper because I was not paying attention to it (I thought I had the oven on for the swedish meatballs only to notice that I forgot to turn it on, then I boiled the water away from the potatoes so switched to rice and then I burned the rice and the swedish meatballs and served it at 7:40 pm) Goes to show I should stay on track and focus on one thing at a time. By the way, my usual mo is to scrap whatever is going on right now, and allow events that haven't been scrapped in the past to just not get scrapbooked.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35531807.post-38737479245501741772012-01-31T13:35:00.002-07:002012-01-31T13:37:24.018-07:00January progress ...
On my word for 2012 ...

My favorite FLY quotes:

Refuse to be average. Let your heart soar as high as you will. - Aiden Wilson Tozer-

Some people regard discipline as a chore. For me it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly. - Julie Andrews-

Definition: to take to the air usually employing wings, to move through the air, to be carried through the air by wind or any force, to float or flutter in the air, to travel in an aircraft, to move suddenly or quickly, to change rapidly and unexpectedly from one state or position to another, to move or pass swiftly, to operate, to resist, to rush out, to burst into passion.

These are my favorite definitions for the word fly (found on dictionary.com and the 1828 Webster's dictionary). To resist was by far the most surprising definition (I'm interested in what I will be resisting this year) and to "burst into a passion" was also very interesting to me.

This year by choosing the word fly I am inviting: freedom, opportunity, new challenges, faith, growth, rest, passion, life, love, joy, and change. Looking forward to seeing how the journey that this new year and this new word bring.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35531807.post-25127063050756420352012-01-02T16:26:00.001-07:002012-01-02T16:26:33.111-07:00Leah's bucket quiltI've been waiting until now to show my latest quilting creation: Leah's bucket (car seat) quilt.
