Not the greatest of pictures (I've laid out the quilt on my bed ...) but it gives me a good idea of what the quilt will look like. I was leaning toward the coin quilt ... but now I think I'll make a smaller quilt with the original design I was inspired to make (from the Old Red Barn quilt along).

I'd say, go with whatever is easier. Then again, you've already got everything put together, you may as well go for broke. I think the bigger quilt would be something he could use for a longer amount of time. OR, you could make two quilts with the leftover material if you go with the smaller.
