Curling

Our family loves curling. Daddy and Grandpa play every week. I don't curl (only tried once and fell all over the ice - this game has one slippery shoe and I'm not that coordinated!). We've been watching curling on tv for the last month (the women's Canadian finals, the Men's Canadian finals and this week the Women's World finals. Go Canada Go!). Anyway, Joel loves to watch curling and he practices too! It's so cute - he'll take out his golf club and call it a broom and sweep his little fridge magnets down the "ice" saying "HURRY HARD" just like the curlers do on tv. Today, Daddy took him to the rink to ride the rock (a White tradition for many generations - to get pushed down the ice while riding the rock - only for very small people!) Apparently Joel wasn't interested in riding the rocks he wanted to play curling ... and so that's what they did. It's going to be a long few winters for him ... kids curling starts at about 5 or 6. Maybe they'll make an exception!

Weekend Creativity

Right now Josh is sleeping in his sling attached to me (such a cozy way to hold him and still have my hands free to do stuff), Joel is sleeping on the couch (he was watching Cars ... hopefully he'll sleep tonight - this usually means a late evening), and Matt is working in the garage! So good to have my little family all at home (we miss you Grandma - she went home this afternoon).

This weekend I worked on a couple of creative things. First is my layout for One Little Word's challenge for TIME. A good word. But a difficult layout for me to make ... I started it about 4 times and then erased everything and started again! This is a lift of Emily and Charlotte's layouts on the LIFT ME UP challenge by the amazing Karla Dudley.

I also worked on a little project which turned out to be a joint venture between Matt, Joel, Grandma and Me! Inspired by Ali Edward's butterflys ... here is our stars (to be hung in Joel's room).

And just for Auntie Adie ... some more pics .... (we love you Auntie!)

Joel's latest fascination:

HE LOVES THIS BOOK! Thanks Noah for giving it to us! I think I read it to him about 3 or 4 times a day (and if Daddy or Grandma are willing, they read it to him too!) He takes it from room to room with him all through the house ... "Mama read this", "Mama what happened fence?", "Mama does little Red win the race?" ....

Today

Joel and I stayed home and hung out. We did housekeeping (only a little), we played soccer and built a track for his trains in the basement (so impressed - he dismantled mine and made his own - first time ever), he didn't have a nap (which was grouchy for him and frustrating for me), he asked me to take his picture - so I did, I made supper, he watched "The Bugs" movie (A bugs life), he went to bed early, I'm going to bed late because I watched The Practive and am blogging!

And I did this layout for my digital scrapping class! Very very cool stuff!

Super Joel

Yesterday morning, I was reading blogs and Joel was in the kitchen playing. All the sudden I hear "super mommy!" And I say "Super Joel!" He comes running down the hall jubuliently waving his arms in the air yelling "SUPER JOEL!" All day he walked around yelling it and this morning too. SUPER CUTE! (and where was my camera?)

Another sweet thing ... he calls cucumbers "cutecumbers"!

Joel - Paramedic or was that Cowboy?

Joel found an old stethoscope of mine a few weeks ago and joyfully yelled "Joel - parametic" (I know I spelled it wrong but that's how he says it). We keep telling him it's a stethoscope - he calls it that sometimes but mostly it's "Joel's parametic"!

He's so cute these days! Ever since we went to the chuck wagon races Joel has been talking about horses, wagons, races and cowboys. Grandma W. has been talking to him about cowboy boots - and he wants some (he said to her "stores open maybe?"). Last week he said to me "Joel ride horse someday?" "Sure" I said. Joel - "Mommy too". Me -"yes" Joel - "Joel cowboy maybe?" Me - "yes you are my cowboy"

Sleep

I've been doing a lot of this lately! Naps in the afternoon, going to bed early - and trying to sleep late (although Joel interupts that quite well with a loud 'Mommy - MILK" and up off the couch I am getting him whatever it is he wants). Is it bad that we watch the morning kids shows?
Last night I was enjoying my dreams when I was awakened to an urgent call from my bladder (this baby is making itself known ... with wee kicks and full bladders) and then after sleeping for an hour my other baby calls "MOMMY MOMMY MOOOOOMMMMMMMY!" So up I stumble (have you ever got lost in your own room? I do most nights) But it melts my heart when I go to his room ... "Need Mommy, need Mommy" a cuddle, some milk and we're all back in our own beds snoring. I think it's funny that Matt never knows when Joel gets up in the night! But he is wonderful because in the morning if Joel is up before him, he'll go get him for a snuggle with me so I can get a few more winks in.

Didn't want to forget!

Joel and I have been working on who is a boy and who is a girl lately. This morning's conversation:
Joel pointed to himself and said "boy"
Me: "Good, and Mommy is ..."
Joel: "Pretty"

Oh it melts my heart even just remembering! We had worked with Joel to say Pretty after we said Aunty Rhonda (because of the wedding). I love my little man!
PS. Pic of Joel in his wedding suit!

Things to do on a hot hot day in July (and some art)

Play in the sprinkler:

Wash the car:

Go for a drive:

Go down a slide:

Play in the dirt:

Take a nap:

And here's art card #38 and #39! Thanks for looking!

The big boy bed

Somebody loves his new bed. "Truck - Big Truck - bed!" over and over. I just can't get him to have a nap in there. Night time works because he's so tired ... but nap time just becomes play time until he's had enough and wants out of his room (good thing he hasn't figured out how to open the door yet!) Any suggestions?

A wonderful few days (and an art card)

First off ... today's art card. Inspired by a birthday card I made this morning.

This was today's fun! Joel and I went to the Ellis bird farm to help celebrate this little girl's first birthday! What fun! There were lots of little kids to play with for Joel (and two of my good friends for me to talk to), there was fishing for little bugs and fish in the pond with nets, checking out the baby lambs (Joel was not that excited about that at first) and getting to feed them water in bottles. Followed up by icecream and a nap on the way home from all the fun!

This is a picture of my Grandpa and Joel and I - from the trip we just went on with my Mom. It was so lovely to see my Grandpa again and spend some time with him. I love this wonderful man.

Yesterday's fun:
Walking around the Calgary zoo checking out all the animals. The giraffes were my favorite!

Joel has been getting more and more words everyday. Just today ... name, Bailey, box, Simon, and a whole bunch more I can't remember. Loving this age. Off to go scrapbook before I go to bed!

A big boy haircut

A big thank you to Jessica for her professional haircutting skills. Joel got his first haircut from a real hairdresser today! I think he looks so cute and handsome (and older). More new words ... Emma, Chin, bubbles and keys... I love my big boy!

It's a great day to be alive!

What a wonderful day! Joel is so much fun these days! He just loves being outside! We went for a long walk this morning with the puppy, played in the backyard and blew bubbles, and then after supper walked to the park with the Daddy! I love summer! (Okay it's still spring - but it feels like summer!)

Love this last photo ... Daddy getting Joel ready for bed. We've changed bathtime to at night before bed because he gets so grubby in the day - playing in the dirt and having fun!
Joel has been learning soooo many new words lately! Home, arm, nail, tail, elbow are a few I can think of right now! What a fun time!

Spring is coming (we hope)

Joel and I took Bailey for a walk in the beautiful crisp spring weather! The snow is melting and he had lots of fun playing with the snow in the "gwass". I'm also very excited that my tulips are starting to come up!
